EA planning something “far-reaching” for Mass Effect in 2011

In addition to all the other new TBA titles that Electronic Arts announced yesterday the company also revealed that “something far-reaching” from the Mass Effect franchise will come out during the fourth quarter of their fiscal 2011 (the three months ending 3/31/2011).

While the “far-reaching” comment is a little strange, this is most likely about the already semi-announced Mass Effect 3.

Pachter: Call of Duty to Decline $250 Million in 2010

“Massive sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (likely over 13 million units) were likely enough to offset lower than expected sales of DJ Hero, Tony Hawk: Ride, and Band Hero. …we expect the music genre to decline modestly (another $50 – 100 million) and expect Call of Duty to generate sharply lower revenue. Music games should continue to sell well to new console owners, and our forecast projects a 15% attach rate to new console purchases. Call of Duty’s phenomenal launch poses a difficult comparison, and we expect a year-over-year decline of $250 million for the franchise. Activision’s core business remains strong, and we expect game shifts to allow it to grow market share next year. We expect sales of at least 12 million incremental PC software units for Blizzard games next year, with a bias that the number could be higher. This should drive revenues $400 – 600 million higher, with substantial margin contribution.” – Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter

2010 should see a Call of Duty game from Treyarch, hopefully CoD Vietnam, and these typically sell less than the CoD’s from Infinity Ward.  With that in mind Pachter’s estimates seem very possible.

ESRB Rating:

Reviewed by: Steven Metcalf

I haven’t played a video pinball game since the days of Sonic Spinball.  And I haven’t played an actual stand-up pinball machine since I worked a summer job at Time Out Arcade fifteen years ago and got to play Twilight Zone for free.  That’s to say, I went into the new Zen Pinball Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 table with a fresh set of eyes.
