Greenberg (Microsoft): Nintendo Customers Will ‘Graduate’ to Xbox 360

“I think for us, we don’t really see the Wii as a direct competitor, we actually very much complement the Wii experience. It’s obviously clear that we’re going head-to-head with the PS3 in this generation. I think what Xbox will be able to do as well as the Wii is grow the market.  In this generation we’re seeing record revenues for the U.S. and globally for the business, and we’re seeing more people buying and playing games than ever before, and the Wii is definitely part of that. And as they [Nintendo] grow that pie, that benefits us too, because those customers are eventually going to want to graduate to an Xbox 360 experience.” – Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft

I’m going to have to disagree with this one.  What Mr. Greenberg is forgetting is that most people do not buy multiple consoles during any given generation.  I am willing to bet that the majority of the new gamers that have bought a Wii will be more than happy with that experience until the next round of consoles.

Rumor: Animal Crossing Wii at E3

The latest issue of UK’s Official Nintendo Magazine contains a hint about what we can expect from Nintendo at E3 this year.  The mag has the familiar image of an Animal Crossing town with the tag line, “It’s been a while! It’s time to revisit an old friend. How’s your village doing these days?”

Looks like I will be hunting down obscure pieces of furniture pretty soon.

Bungie Day

Bungie Day marks release of new Halo 3 map and other goodies on 7/7
Bungie celebrates fans and rewards players with a new free multiplayer map, gamer pics, dashboard theme, and Legendary Map Pack price drop

July 7, or 7/7, has long been heralded as “Bungie Day” among “Halo” players and fans of the renowned developer. This year, Bungie is celebrating this day with the release of new multiplayer map Cold Storage, as well as new gamer pics and a Bungie Day Xbox 360 dashboard theme, all for free on Xbox LIVE Marketplace. The “Halo 3” Legendary Map Pack will also drop in price to 600 Microsoft points in honor of the occasion.

The tradition of Bungie Day was born in part due to the significance the number 7 has played in all of Bungie’s games over the years, including the “Halo” series (7 Halo rings, Master Chief is Spartan 117, etc.), and each year the developer makes a point to use this date to treat fans to something special – usually new content, a free download or other surprise.
