Eidos’ official Tomb Raider Underworld technical forums have been ablaze with Wii owners who have been fighting the game ending glitch that we first reported last Sunday. An Eidos administrator, who has been in contact with the company’s Customer Service department, tried to reassure the posters that the glitch was rare and those who experienced it are “the (really) unlucky ones.” The next poster questioned the use of the word “rare” and was responded to with the following reply from the administrator:
Mmm, believe it or not I mean it. I guess it might not seem like that to the people that have experienced it though.
I spoke to Customer Services, they’ve only had seven calls about it in the UK. I know the phone is a bit last century, but AOD had A LOT more calls (I should know I was in Customer Service at the time).
This bug is a really tricky one because it’s so inconsistent. The game went through four separate QA departments (Eidos, Buzz Monkey, Crystal D, Nintendo) and this bug wasn’t recreated (to my knowledge).
The bug does seem to be inconsistent but calling it rare is a stretch. I found it my first time in the level and after doing some searching on forums across the internet I have seen several people who also found the glitch.
More importantly, how did this game go through four QA departments and still make it out with this many bugs and game ending glitches?
