New Nintendo DS Game Unearths Fossil-Themed Excitement at World-Famous La Brea Tar Pits
WHAT: Already a world-famous destination for prehistoric discovery, L.A.’s La Brea Tar Pits will be the site of an extraordinary entertainment find as Nintendo touts the upcoming release of its new Fossil Fighters™ game for the portable Nintendo DS™ system with a launch event for kids and their parents. Highlights will include a chance to play Fossil Fighters in advance of its Aug. 10 release, as well as a hands-on fossil dig in which kids compete to excavate and assemble the game’s fearsome creatures for prize giveaways (while supplies last). Attendees of all ages can enjoy a live Fossil Fighters tournament, and parents will be granted free admission to the nearby Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits when accompanied by a child. Guided museum tours and a tour of Project 23, which is undergoing excavation, will be available regularly throughout the event.

Sales for quarter ended 06/30/09, unit sales numbers are in thousands.
- PS3 – 2 SKUs, 310 units
- Wii – 6 SKUs, 550 units
- Xbox 360 – 2 SKUs, 200 units
- DS – 3 SKUs, 180 units
- PSP – 2 SKUs, 110 units
- PC – 2 SKUs, 20 units
On the Wii 150k of those 550k are just one week of Conduit sales. That would mean that the average of the other software sales would be 80k for the other 5 titles. This makes The Conduit one of SEGA’s most successful Wii titles (behind Mario vs. Sonic of course).

“The cost reduction since we introduced the PS3 is very substantial and this is on schedule… We don’t disclose how much of the PS3, specifically the cost deduction was achieved during the past two years. But that is on schedule… [total cost reduction is] about 70 per cent”. – Nobuyuki Oneda, Sony CEO and executive VP
I wouldn’t take this new information to mean that Sony has finally turned the corner and is manufacturing the PS3 for less than they sell it for. It was just last May that they announced that their costs were about 10% above their retail price. This new announcement only indicates that they are moving in the right direction.
Additionally, this can’t really been seen that Sony is getting ready to cut their retail price. Cutting manufacturing costs is also a positive but there is still exchange rates to worry about.

Activision is claiming in a court case against EA and Double Fine that they still own the rights to publish Brutal Legend and are asking the court to block the games release.
The judge in the case has decided to postpone his decision until August 6th (two days before the game is scheduled to be completed and delivered to EA for publication) but has indicated in a tentative ruling that Double Fine and Electronic Arts will prevail in the case.
