MTV Games will only sell meaningful peripherals

“It’s all about the software and gameplay… If those can be enhanced in a meaningful way by peripherals, then you ought to go down that path.  If it isn’t [enhancing gameplay] or it’s not an incremental value add then you don’t do it.” – Scott Guthrie, MTV Games general manager

I’m glad that someone is showing some restraint when it comes to peripherals because Activision sure isn’t.  I’m still waiting for them to announce Grand Piano Hero, then we will all have plastic baby grand pianos in our living rooms.

Rumor: No More Heroes 2 has at least two playable characters other than Travis

no-more-heroes-2-e3-screens

“It’s still too early to tell you everything about the game,” says Suda, “but firstly we’re going to have more than one playable character – as the scenario unfolds, Shinobu and Henry will become playable and will bring their own styles and cool factor”.

This info comes from EDGE and should be considered a rumor.  Spoiler alert, highlight the blank spot to read who the playable characters are.

Sony not planning games-on-demand service for PS3

“[A games-on-demand service] is not something we have planned, just because the size of the games is massive… With Blu-ray we can put up to 50GB on a dual-layer disc, while Xbox 360 is still on a 9GB media. So technically it’s possible, but I think the issue would be ‘do you want to download 40 gigs and keep that on your hard drive?’. I think there’s great opportunity there in the future, and it’s something we’ll always look at, but for the time being it’s not a direction we’re going in.” – Eric Lempel, SCEA PSN director

He left out the part where if Sony did push for a full games-on-demand service GameStop would most likely threaten to cut back or stop selling Sony’s products in retaliation.

Digital downloads are a huge threat to brick and motor businesses, and the hardware manufactures need to keep them happy in order to sell consoles.  I don’t think we are going to see any mass digital services for consoles pop up until the traditional retail stores figure out a way to get a piece of the action.
