“I think for Sony, what in many ways kind of threw them off that strategy was what happened with the PS2 and the DVD player phenomenon. They kind of expected that to happen with the PS3 and the Blu-ray.” – Aaron Greenberg, Xbox 360 group product manager
Blu-Ray is perhaps the biggest mistake that Sony made this generation. It has cost them too much money to develop and the vast majority of consumers have been slow to adopt it. On top of that streaming movies, like the service that Netflix offers, are quickly becoming consumers prefered method for watching movies. Putting so much faith and money into Blu-ray, as wonderful as the tech is, has without a doubt been an albotraus around the PlayStation 3’s neck.
