“The reality is that we started Wii development in 2008, but before that we were a PC, PS3, and 360 title. It’s burned in my brain – Graham Hopper [Disney Interactive boss] pulled me into my office one day and said ‘What does it take to deliver on the goals we have for this product? And I said, well, you need enough time and enough money to be competitive. And it’d be awfully nice if we could focus on one platform. At that time we were talking about a Wii port and I was begging people – no, we can’t just port to the Wii, it’s not going to work. It needs to be its own game. A lot of the design ideas just won’t work on the Wii, we need to give the Wii its dues. Graham looked at me and said ‘What do you think about a Wii exclusive?’ And I went ‘Holy cow – yeah!’” – Warren Spector

Sky Player on Xbox 360 launched on Tuesday 27th October and was met with phenomenal demand, with many tens of thousands of customers attempting to sign-up within the first hour of launch. Unfortunately due to the unprecedented levels of simultaneous demand, we did not have the capacity to satisfy all service requests and therefore temporarily suspended all access to the service. Today, the rollout will be implemented in phases to ensure that consumers experience both a smooth sign-up process and high-quality experience. We apologise to all customers that have not been able to experience Sky Player on Xbox 360, we assure them that this is being rectified and we thank them for their patience. – Xbox.com statement

That’s more than 40 per cent bigger than music digital downloads in revenue terms. We’re eclipsing music, we’re already there, it’s growing and yet we see it as different. Customers buy packaged goods and retail then want more. Every week 30-40 million consumers walk into retail shops – it’s not a market we’re going to quickly ignore. While there are disc drives in machines in homes, consumers will still buy discs.” – EA boss Keith Ramsdale
If the industry moves too quickly towards digital distribution I think it will find that they left a lot of people behind, most notability the casual mainstream consumers.
