Our review copy of Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles stumbled into the Gamer Investment offices today. Reviews are embargoed until Monday evening so I will not be putting anything up about the title over the weekend. However, I’m going to do my best to fight my way through the hordes of undead and have a review ready for you guys when the embargo lifts.

From the BBC iPlayer press release earlier today:
There are currently nearly six million Wii consoles in homes across the UK (Data courtesy of Chart Track GfK, Annual Consoles By Format, Week 45 Year 2009. Week ending 7th November 2009. Copyright Chart Track GfK 2009.)

There are territory restrictions based on the publishing agreements we have with each of our partners. We’re specifically focusing this on the UK. A couple of other English-speaking territories are included, but we wanted to make the launch for this series UK-based. Literacy here is actually very high, and we feel that the UK is the right market for Flips. We compared UK and North America and found – to put it bluntly – that UK kids tend to be more advanced readers at this age group. – Harvey Elliot, head of EA Play
I’m surprised that Elliot said this. Seems like a stupid thing to say and risk losing potential customers. But if he is right I guess it won’t matter much because the kids over here won’t read any of this anyway and they will have no interest in Flips.
One thing is for sure, we won’t be picking up Flips in my house. Not because my kids aren’t strong readers and not because of this statement but because when my girls want to read something we just pick up one of the hundreds of actual books that we already have.

“It was an NCL [Japanese company's home office] idea… New Super Mario Brothers is such a special title, it is something that [Mario creator Shigeru] Miyamoto and his team have been so passionate about — that when it came time for the final packaging, we had many internal discussions as to how we make it special. And that’s where the idea of the red box came from: How do we signify to our Nintendo fans, to our greater community the specialness of this title? The red is Mario red.”
“What we did differently here in the U.S., when we were looking at the final packaging, we were concerned that the Wii logo on the red, in what we call the branding bar, was a little too plain just white. So it’s in our market we’ve made it silver with the metallic ink to make it pop more.”
“We’ve been clear that this is kind of a one-time deal… Don’t expect to see a yellow box for x or a gold box for y.” – Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo
My 2 cents, Mario games should always be red and Zelda games should always be gold.
