Pachter: Wii Two-Year Sales on Pace to Beat PS2’s

Monday, January 5th, 2009

According to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter Life-to-date sales of Nintendo’s Wii are very close to the PlayStation 2 sales numbers at the end of it’s second year of sales.  Pachter also expects that December NPD hardware sales, which are due out on January 15th, will show that the pace of the Wii has surpassed that of the PS2.

You have to hand it to Nintendo.  Very few companies are able to create a product where sales seem to be limited only by the amount that can be manufactured.

Rumor: ‘Wii Sports’ Passes ‘Super Mario Bros.’ to Become the Best Selling Game of all Time

Monday, January 5th, 2009

According to data from VGChartz.com ‘Wii Sports’ (Wii) has surpassed ‘Super Mario Bros’ (NES) to become the best selling video game of all time with 40.24 million units sold.

Keep in mind VGChartz does not use exact sales data to get their figures and this doesn’t count all the different releases of Super Mario Bros (GameBoy, Wii Virtual Console, etc) that have come out over the years.  With that being said, I fully expect that Wii Sports will overtake Super Mario Bros in sales at some point.  However, I’m going to wait for official word from Nintendo before I make that call.
