To all of our U.S. readers, have a happy and safe Fourth of July! And a special thank you to all the men and women who have and continue to serve our great country.
No more news updates for today but Gamer Investments will be back to a semi-normal posting schedule tomorrow. Happy Independence Day!
Patrick Boivin put together this video to bring together two things that he always wanted as a kid but never got, a real dog and an AT-AT Walker.
There is really only two reasons that I’m posting this.
1. I’m a huge Star Wars nerd
2. I too wanted an AT-AT as a child but never got one. There was one Christmas that I was sure I would get an AT-AT but ended up getting the Ewok Village instead. Let me tell you, the Ewok Village is no substitute for an AT-AT. As a side note I did have a dog and ironically enough she ate two of my Yodas.
In a surprise announcement, TBS revealed this morning that the former “Tonight Show” host would join the cabler in the 11 p.m. time slot this November.
“Lopez Tonight,” which currently airs there, will shift to midnight. Like “Lopez,” the as-yet untitled O’Brien show will air four days a week, Mondays through Thursdays.
“In three months I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I’m headed to basic cable,” O’Brien said. “My plan is working perfectly.”
I would have figured that Conan and FOX would work out a deal but it’s just as well. Every time I really like a show on FOX they cancel it (ie. Dark Angel, Greg the Bunny and Arrested Development to name a few).
At any rate, I’m just glad to have my Cone Zone back.
Well, I’ve been dreading it all day but now it’s time for me to go take the Fam to the circus.
As much as I detest the circus (and the loathsome, offensive and in no way funny clowns that inhabit the three rings) I would do anything for the three women that I live with (one wife, two daughters) and tonight that means trying not to look too unhappy while watching the most boring show on Earth.
It’s not often that anything non-video game related gets posted up around here, but there is this standing rule to post up all Hulk Hogan news. So consider this your DVR alert, Brother!
WRESTLING LEGEND AND POP CULTURE ICON WILL FACE RIC FLAIR ON LIVE NETWORK TELEVISION FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ALMOST A DECADE
NEW YORK, March 1, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — Legendary pop culture icon Hulk Hogan will face his longtime nemesis Ric Flair for the first time in almost a decade on network television. The match will air live on “TNA iMPACT!” on Spike TV Monday, March 8 (9:00-11:00pm ET/PT).
A couple of days ago this Dark Void figure showed up at the Gamer Investments’ office with a note thanking us for running some banners for the game.
The figure got me thinking about our role in the video game industry, which I’ll be the first to admit is very small. Running a news blog isn’t even really having your foot in the door, it’s more like having the tip of your toenail sticking over the threshold. But as small as that is it’s about a million miles closer to the industry I love than I ever thought I would be. If I were to travel back in time to my middle school self and tell him that someday the company that made the Mega Man game he was playing on that NES would send a little gift thanking him for helping promote a game it would have blown his mind. In fact it kind of blows my mind just thinking about it now.
So, thank you Capcom! This figure is very cool and very appreciated.
Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the “Tonight Show” to 12:05 to accommodate the “Jay Leno Show” at 11:35. For 60 years, the “Tonight Show” has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the “Tonight Show” into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The “Tonight Show” at 12:05 simply isn’t the “Tonight Show.” Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the “Late Night” show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.
So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard, and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of “The Tonight Show.” But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet, a time slot doesn’t matter. But with the “Tonight Show,” I believe nothing could matter more. – statement from Conan O’Brien
I’ve have been a huge fan of Conan since some time in the mid 90′s when I started watching Late Night. What NBC is doing is stupid and I will follow Conan to wherever he ends up.
On behalf of everyone at Gamer Investments I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year! Huge thanks to all of our readers, writers and industry friends who made 2009 such a great year for the site. Being able to log in here each day and post up the latest happenings in the video game industry has been an amazing experience and I can’t wait to see what 2010 brings for Gamer Investments.
This is the official last post of 2009 but I will be back early 2010 (tomorrow morning) to get the site up to date. Until then have a happy and safe New Year Investors!
I wanted to take a few minutes here on Christmas Eve to wish all of our readers, staff and industry friends a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Coming up in February is our 2 year anniversary of the site. Since the end of 2009 marks our first full calendar year at Gamer Investments I thought I would take a few lines here to look back at what a wonderful year it has been.
During the course of this last year there have been some big changes on the site. Back in August not only did the site get a major overhaul in the design but we also changed our hosting provider and servers. I could not be happier with the changes and the end result was a much more stable and improved version of Gamer Investments.
Since those changes in August the site traffic has grown by leaps and bounds. We are still a relatively small community here when compared to the big guys on the net but since the server change Gamer Investments has added a minimum of 10,000 new unique users per month. That absolutely astounds me and I just want to thank each and every reader who has visited the site since we launched in Feb 08.
Last but far from least, I want to thank our review writing staff at Gamer Investments. Brian Allen, Shawn Hendrickson and Steve Metcalf all joined the site this year and their hard work and writing skill have greatly improved and expanded our content. I honestly don’t know how I got so lucky to have these three guys join the site but I could not appreciate them more. They are all fantastic writers and reviewers who share my passion for the video game industry. I’m going to work my tail off to get as many games into their hands in 2010 as I possibly can, so you can expect to see a lot more from them next year.
