Sega Software Sales Breakdown for the Nine Months Ended 12/31/09

Along with their earnings release Sega has provided a breakdown of their video game sales for the nine months ended Dec 31, 2009.

The company saw their biggest success in Europe with 8.16 million units of software sold, followed by the US  with 6.09 million units and Japan at 2.47 million units.  Worldwide software sales totaled 16.73 million units for the period, which represented a decrease from the 21.09 million units sold during the same period in 2008.  The reason for the decline can largely be attributed to Sega releasing 19 fewer titles in 2009 than in 2008 and Sega is projecting that despite having fewer titles total sales will remain at about the same level for the year.

Software sales for each of the platforms breakdown as follows.

  • PS3 – 1.12m units
  • Wii – 4.65m units
  • Xbox 360 – 790k units
  • DS – 3.13m units
  • PSP – 1.07m units
  • PC – 730k units

Sega also noted that Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games sold 5.67m units (Wii and DS combined) and Bayonetta sold a total of 1.1m units (PS3 and Xbox 360).
